What is the NATO Phonetic Alphabet?

The NATO Phonetic Alphabet is the phonetic alphabet used by the armed forces of the United States, Canada, Great Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, and many other nations. It was developed in order to avoid the need to use diacritics, and phonetic notation, which can be complicated. For example, the word letter 'A' in the alphabet has the sound letter 'Ä', while the word letter 'B' has the sound letter 'Ö'.

The phonetic alphabet is used for written communication, such as in e-mail, in instant messaging, and in voice messages. It is also used for voice recording and for speech recognition.

This app has a quick list for all the words that include letters and numbers. It is designed to help you quickly access the words you need to know, in order to be able to pronounce them correctly.
